Ana Navarro to Ted Cruz: Why do you love Trump when he called your wife ‘ugly’?

During an appearance on The View this Monday, Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz was asked by co-host Ana Navarro about his past dust-ups with Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign when Cruz was a candidate — specifically the times when Donald Trump accused Cruz’s father of being involved in the JFK assassination and when he called Cruz’s wife ugly.

“Donald Trump went incredibly personal when it came to you. He suggested that your father may have been involved in Kennedy’s assassination, and he called your wife, Heidi, ugly.” Navarro told Cruz before playing a video clip from the 2016 campaign of Cruz calling Trump a “pathological liar” and a man who is “utterly amoral.”

Navarro contrasted Cruz’s past statements to his current die-hard support for Trump. “Were you lying then, or are you lying now?” she asked him.

Cruz said that he was only feuding with Trump because they were locked in a primary “where Donald Trump and I beat the living crap out of each other.” He also claimed that his wife, Heidi, and his father “laughed” when they heard Trump’s insults.

“We went after each other and at the end of the day, [Trump] won, and I had to make a decision to make in November of 2016 … I could have decided my feelings were hurt, take the ball and go home and not do my job.”
