Body cam video shows man confess to police he shot his friend in the chest: ‘I’m here to turn myself in’

A Ohio man pleaded guilty last month to a felony charge of reckless homicide after he allegedly accidentally shot and killed a friend while showing them a gun. Now police body cam video of the man’s confession as he turned himself in has surfaced.

Brian Mason, 58, was charged in the March 26 death of Michelle Elliott, 57, whose body was found the evening of March 27 at her home. Mason told police he and Elliott were old friends from high school, and she told him she wanted a different gun to have at her house because she felt unsafe.

“Mason said he showed her his 40-caliber handgun and in the process, had an accidental discharge, which struck Michelle in the chest.” He claimed he panicked, covered her body with a blanket and then fled her house in his pickup truck.

Police body cam that was recently shared to Reddit shows Mason turning himself in to police the day after the incident, basically giving them the same explanation that police initially reported he had given.

“I’m here to turn myself in,” Mason said in the video has he approached an officer.

“I had an accident last night,” he tells the officer. “I was showing an old friend of mine how to use this gun that she was needing, that she asked for, and it went off and shot her in the chest, and I’ve been running around scared.”

The officer then tells Mason to put his hands behind his back and places him under arrest.

“Does this person need help right now or are they deceased or what?” the officer asks.

“They’re deceased,” Mason replied.

If convicted, Mason faces three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
