GOP convention speaker arrested for shooting a woman in the stomach

A West Virginia nurse who spoke at the Republican National Convention in August has been arrested for shooting a woman in the stomach after an argument, WCHS reports.

Amy Thorn, also known as Amy Ford, 39, made headlines for traveling to New York to treat coronavirus patients. She was later honored at a ceremony at the White House.

According to Williamson Police Chief Grady Dotson, Thorn claims she acted in self-defense. “She went to the car and got the gun out of the car,” Dotson said.

The victim, Jonda Whitt, reportedly does not have any life-threatening injuries.

Thorn has been charged with malicious wounding and released on $5,000 bond.
