Responding to the FBI’s identification and arrest of a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard in connection with the leaking of classified documents that were posted to the social media platform discord, Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said the leaker is being “treated like a traitor and criminal.”
“When it comes to Ukraine, the Biden Administration has lied to us from the very beginning. Joe Biden said the US would not get involved in the war in Ukraine because Ukraine is not a NATO member nation,” Greene wrote in a Twitter post this Thursday. “Yet over a year later, we’ve sent hundreds of billions of dollars, military equipment, and so much ammunition that we have to borrow from foreign countries like South Korea to replenish our stockpile. We have now found out from a supposed 21-year-old National Guardsman that there are American military troops on the ground in Ukraine.”
Greene is likely referring to comments President Joe Biden made in 2021 during the run up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, where he said that putting American troops on the ground in Ukraine to deter Russia was “not on the table.” Biden later clarified that U.S. action in Ukraine “would depend upon what the rest of the NATO countries were willing to do as well,” but added that “the idea the United States is going to unilaterally use force to confront Russia invading Ukraine is not … in the cards right now.”
The leaked documents included detailed intelligence assessments of both allies and adversaries, “including on the state of the war in Ukraine and the challenges Kyiv and Moscow face as the war appears stuck in a stalemate,” CNN reported.
In her tweet this Thursday, Greene went on to slam the arrest of the leaker, identified as 21-year-old Jack Teixeira.
“Now the Biden Administration and DOJ want to arrest a likely low-lever National Guardsman for exposing the TRUTH?? It’s Joe Biden, his Administration, and the Department of Defense that are breaking the law,” Greene wrote. “They are violating the Constitution by inserting us into an armed conflict most Americans don’t want and no American benefits from.”
“The National Guardsman that released these Pentagon papers is simply blowing the whistle on what is really taking place at the DOD, yet he’s being treated like a traitor and criminal,” Greene continued. “It’s the Biden Admin and the DOD who are acting like criminals. They’re the ones who should be held accountable to the American people because of what they’re doing in Ukraine.”
In a followup tweet, Greene said the Biden administration is the “real enemy.”
“Jake Teixeira is white, male, christian, and antiwar. That makes him an enemy to the Biden regime,” Greene tweeted. “And he told the truth about troops being on the ground in Ukraine and a lot more. Ask yourself who is the real enemy? A young low level national guardsmen? Or the administration that is waging war in Ukraine, a non-NATO nation, against nuclear Russia without war powers?”
