Nancy Pelosi responds to Trump’s attack on progressive Dems: It’s about ‘making America white again’

In a post to her official Twitter account this Sunday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) fired back at President Trump in response to his recent attack on unnamed progressive congresswomen — an attack that many perceived as racist.

Earlier Sunday, Trump unloaded on Pelosi and others he referred to as “‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen,” whom he said “came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world…”

Trump went on to slam them for telling the US “how our government is to be run.”

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” Trump continued.

The tweet kicked off a firestorm of backlash, with the President’s opponents accusing him of leveling a racist attack on progressive congresswomen of color.

Pelosi, who herself has been accused of taking an adversarial stance towards Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and others, took to Twitter and fired back at Trump.

“When @realDonaldTrump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to ‘Make America Great Again’ has always been about making America white again,” Pelosi tweeted. “Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power.”

Ocasio-Cortez also hit back at Trump directly, reminding him that the country she ‘comes from’ is the United States.

“But given how you’ve destroyed our border with inhumane camps, all at a benefit to you & the corps who profit off them, you are absolutely right about the corruption laid at your feet,” she tweeted.

In a followup tweet, AOC wrote Trump is “angry because you can’t conceive of an America that includes us.”

“You rely on a frightened America for your plunder,” she wrote. “You won’t accept a nation that sees healthcare as a right or education as a #1 priority, especially where we’re the ones fighting for it. Yet here we are.”
