Trump is attacking Ron DeSantis because ‘he isn’t getting the deference from him that he wants’

Former President Donald Trump is taking aim at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, accusing him of having a “dull personality” and not having a chance of beating him in a potential 2024 matchup, Axios reports.

Trump and DeSantis are at the top of the heap when it comes to favorite presidential contender for the next presidential election. When pollsters remove Trump from the hypothetical field, DeSantis is the 2024 favorite. Possibly sparking Trump’s ire were comments DeSantis made on a recent podcast he said he wished he spoke out more during Trump’s presidency when lockdowns were being implemented.

“[Trump] says DeSantis has no personal charisma and has a dull personality,” a source told Axios. Another source speaking to Axios says a reason for Trump’s swipes at DeSantis are because DeSantis “won’t say he won’t run [in 2024]. … The others have stated pretty clearly they won’t challenge him.” The source added that there’s no way DeSantis will run without a Trump endorsement.

“What’s the big deal? Why won’t he just say he’s not going to run against me?” Trump has reportedly said, referring to DeSantis. As Axios points out, The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman reported recently that “Trump has been telling a range of aides a version of, he isn’t getting the deference from DeSantis that he wants in the pre-2024 leadup.”
