Trumpkins invent conspiracy theories to distract from the consequences of their other conspiracy theories

Two days ago, George Soros had a bomb hand-delivered to his home. Earlier today, the Obamas and the Clintons had bombs that were being sent to their homes intercepted. Maxine Waters had a bomb intercepted at the mailing center. CNN had to evacuate the building.

It’s almost as if having men in power who casually blame Soros for paying protesters and sending terrorists, who indifferently declare Obama to be a Kenyan Muslim terrorist trying to dismantle America, who offhandedly accuse the Clintons of having people murdered, who nonchalantly insist Waters is inciting mob violence, who insouciantly claim CNN is the enemy of the people — all without any real evidence — is incredibly dangerous.

And I didn’t even get to the whole Pizzagate debacle, which led to someone entering an innocent pizza shop with the intent to kill the owner and rescue nonexistent children.

So is this the moment where right-wing media takes a moment to reflect on how they have contributed to this violent atmosphere by circulating dangerous conspiracy theories or tacitly allowing them to take up public space? LOL omg no.

Rush Limbaugh says it’s a liberal conspiracy because “Republicans just don’t do this.” Bill Mitchell thinks this is a very in-depth Soros conspiracy (when Soros gets a bomb threat, it’s STILL his fault). QAnon insists it’s a false flag. Laura Loomer uses evidence that John Brennan works at NBC, not CNN, as proof the whole story is “unreliable.”

Goodness. I’m exhausted just reading this. Can you imagine living this life? Doing all sorts of mental backflips just to get to the point where anyone Republican is ALWAYS right and anyone who disagrees with you is straight up evil and violent?

There’s talk about how the mainstream media is irresponsible, but the fact that Fox News (the most watched news station in the US) and other conservative news outlets allow these theories on air is itself an attack on the free press. It’s only a matter of time before Fox & Friends or Tucker Carlson implies the liberals were behind this, and Trump tweets something out that backs this up.

Because he will. He will tweet something that lays the blame for this on the very victims of this attempted bombing. And we might not see it (because we are too far into normalizing Trump-Era America to go back now), but it will be the clearest proof we have yet that our republic is slipping through our fingers.
