In the wake of Donald Trump‘s surge to the presidency, there’s been widespread speculation regarding his alleged ties to Russia, especially in light of his consistent adulatory remarks about Vladimir Putin even after a joint intelligence report confirmed Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
According to founder and editor-in-chief of ThinkProgress Judd Legum, Trump’s behavior regarding Russia is “very weird” and he thinks an independent investigation should be conducted into Russia’s alleged meddling.
In an 11-part tweetstorm from earlier this week, Legum suggested that Trump’s bromance with Putin could signal something a little more worrisome than simple adulation.

8. Trump’s pick for Secretary of State opposed sanctions on Russia after it invaded Crimea

9. In light of these facts, and Trump’s vocal disinterest, why should the inquiry be tied to Congress at all?
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) December 30, 2016
10. The investigation could be handled by an independent commission, like the one that investigated 9/11
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) December 30, 2016
11. McCain and other Republicans who claim to care about this should be supporting an independent commission
